Alcohol Based Beverages by Type/Country

Alcohol beverages are produced all over the world. One of the most interesting things about alcohol is that the quality and taste of the drink ultimately depends on not only the ingredients and process used but also the climate and culture of the country in which it is made. There are so many Alcohol beverages indigenous to every country in the world that there is a great variety and combination of distilled beverages to try.

Alcohol beverages are also called spirits, liquors, or distilled beverages. They are made by the method of distillation which results in the product of ethanol, or alcohol. Ethanol can be produced from the fermentation of grains, vegetables, fruits, in addition to others.

Alcohol is often consumed by people all across the world not just because of its thirst-quenching abilities, but because of its depressing effects on the nervous system. Alcohol is one of the world's oldest recreational drugs in the world because of ethanol, the main psychoactive ingredient in liquor. The amount of ethanol in every liquor across the world varies and is measured by the percent of alcohol content by volume.

Alcohol can be made using many substances, including fruits, vegetables, plants, molasses, etc. Wine is made using the juice of crushed grapes while molasses and sugarcane are the usual main ingredients for rum. Vodka can be made using grain, beets, potatoes, etc. Alcohol that is made with vegetables utilizes the process of fermentation and then distillation of the vegetable's juices. During fermentation, yeast breaks down the sugars in the vegetable juices and in turn produces alcohol, or ethanol, and carbon dioxide.

is a distilled beverage that is made using fermented potatoes and caraway or dill in Scandinavia. Mescal (or mezcal) is indigenous to Mexico and made using the agave or maguey plant, while palinka is a Hungarian brandy made using plums. These are just a few of the many, many examples of alcohol produced in countries all over the world. Each and every one is different and distinct depending on the country that produces it.
