George Cloony

George Clooney is known for his classic good looks (he was voted People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2006) and for playing the "likeable scoundrel," and for playing the role of Danny Ocean in the Ocean's Eleven franchise. He's certainly been busy acting, writing and producing as of late--he's near the top of the Forbes list of the "Hardest Working Actors in Hollywood" for making 9 movies in the last five years that grossed more than $20 million. And that list did not include The Fantastic Mr. Fox, in which Clooney voiced the title character, or The Descendants which has gone on to gross more than $186 million. This year Clooney was nominated for an Oscar for his leading performance in The Descendants and also for the Oscar for Best Writing/Adapted Screenplay for The Ides of March.

George Timothy Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky into a family familiar with the entertainment business. His father Nick Clooney was both a well-known news anchor and popular talk show host, and his aunt Rosemary Clooney was a famous singer and actress. George Clooney's first major acting role was in the television series E/R, which ran for two seasons beginning in 1984, and it was his role as Dr. Doug Ross in ER, the successful hospital drama which ran from 1994 to 1999, which made him famous. In the 1980's Clooney appeared in a few less-than-memorable horror movies, but made his first films that attracted notice in 1996--the romantic comedy One Fine Day and the thriller From Dusk Till Dawn.

In 2000, George Clooney acted in The Perfect Storm and gave a memorable performance in the comedy O Brother, Where Art Thou? A year later Ocean's Eleven hit the big screen, where it was a box office hit, and was followed by Ocean's Twelve in 2004 and Ocean's Thirteen in 2007. In 2006, George Clooney won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Syriana, and was nominated twice for Good Night and Good Luck (Best Achievement in Directing and Best Writing/Original Screenplay). He was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Michael Clayton in 2008 and for Up in the Air in 2010. Clooney was also the executive director for Syriana and Michael Clayton. George Clooney will star in the science-fiction thriller Gravity, which is scheduled to hit theaters in November, 2012. Gravity will also star Sandra Bullock and Basher Savage.
