Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden, the massively popular and influential heavy metal band that formed in 1975, has earned international fame and recognition, not only in their particular genre, but in popular culture, as well. Many bands, including Lady GaGa, Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Trivium, and In Flames cite Iron Maiden as a major contributing influence to their own sound and motivation. Due to this incredible achievement, Iron Maiden has won 18 awards, and been nominated 26 times in the following; 1 Brit Award, 1 Grammy, the Ivor Novello Award for international achievement, 1 Bandit Rock Award, 2 Emma-gala, 1 Kerring Award, 6 Metal Hammer Awards, 3 Metal Storms, 1 Nordoff-Robbins, 1 Rockbjornen, and were recognized at the SXSW Film Festival.

However, the successful journey of Iron Maiden has not been without controversy. In 1983, their album "The Number of the Beast" was heavily criticized by a virulent segment of the social conservative set in the United States. Many of these critics stated that the album was filled with allusions to wickedness and that the band, itself, were Satanists. Iron Maiden band members stated that it was obvious that these critics had not listened to the lyrics. "The Number of the Beast" went on to be listed on Q magazine's list of 100 Greatest British Albums Ever, and Guitar World placed it at #17 on their 100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time honor roll.

As Iron Maiden entered the second decade of the 21^st century their entertainment activity continued unabated. They continued to utilize their aircraft "Ed Force One" for "The Final Frontier Tour" that took place in 2011. The aircraft played a significant part in the film, Iron Maiden: Flight 666. It is decorated with the Iron Maiden logo and embedded in the popular culture of rock music history.
