Joan Jett

"The Queen of Rock n' Roll" is the often named label for Joan Jett. Joan Jett began her musical career in the mid-seventies, and by the early eighties had formed Blackheart Records with partner, Kenny Laguna. She had also reached the top of the charts with "I Love Rock `n' Roll". The song would stay on the Billboard Top 100 for seven consecutive weeks and place #56 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of All Time. Blackheart Records would play a central role in the world of rock in the eighties, with artists like; Girl in a Coma, the Dollyrots, the Vacancies, and of course, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Joan Jett has enjoyed a long, accomplished and stylistically impressive entertainment career. She has been recognized by her peers and other organizations for her contributions to the world of music. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine listed Jett at #87 on their list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. She and Joni Mitchell are the only females to have been recognized on this list. In 2006, she was installed into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.

Then, in 2011, it was declared that Jett had been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, she was not recognized with this honor. Many fans and music critics have stepped forward with disparaging critiques of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have alluded that the Hall snubs women and that only a small percentage of women have actually been inducted into the hallowed Hall. Outraged Joan Jett fans are still in dispute concerning this snub and look towards the future to rectify the outcome.

Joan Jett is an active member of the entertainment industry, involved in a variety of charitable and political causes, and a mentor for up and coming rockers. She is indeed the "Queen of Rock `n' Roll.
