Kool & The Gang

Kool and the Gang came to massive success in the mid 1970's during the height of the disco genre craze. Disco music is genre of dance music that was highly influenced in rejection of the rock music that overshadowed the music industry and entertainment field in that time frame. Disco music was propelled to enormous popularity due to its interactive appeal to the African American, gay and psychedelic music populations in New York and Philadelphia. Kool and the Gang became a recognizable force in the disco music genre with albums such as; "Wild and Peaceful" and "Hollywood Swinging".

In 1976, the group released the record-breaking album, Open Sesame. The title track was highlighted on the best-selling soundtrack of all time, Saturday Night Fever, bringing Kool and the Gang two Grammy Awards

The sound of Kool and the Gang, influenced heavily by jazz, rock, R& B, soul and pop has been sampled by a wide variety of musical artists; Mase, DJ Kool, A Tribe Called Quest, Kriss Kross, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Fresh Prince, and N.W. A.

Although, Kool and the Gang have sold over 70 million albums globally, they have yet to be recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, their influence and musical contributions during the `disco era' earned them the 1981, 1982, and 1985 American Music Awards for Favorite Band, Duo or Group. They also were recognized in 1985 in the Favorite Album category by the American Music Awards for the album, "Emergency". In 1986, the American Music Awards recognized Kool and the Gang as Favorite Group Video Artists in the Soul, Rhythm and Blues category.

Kool and the Gang continues to tour and perform into the 2^nd decade of the 21^st century with members; Robert "Kool" Bell, Ronald Bell, George Brown, Dennis Thomas, Clifford Adams, Sonnie Martin, Shawn McQuiller, Rodney Ellis, Jimad Gordon, and Curtis Williams.
