KYMCO stands for Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., and was founded in 1963. It has its headquarters in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its distribution networks and agents are in 86 countries worldwide. Since 1994 KYMCO has been accredited for ISO-9001 quality manufacturing. KYMCO USA is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina and current dealer network serves over 600 locations in the United States.

Scooter models for the US include 50cc models such as the Super 8, Like, Like LX, Sento, People, and Agility. The Super 8, Like and Like LX come with 2-stroke, 49cc engines with forced air cooling systems, electric and kick starting systems, CVT automatic transmissions, telescopic fork front suspensions and either single or dual shock rear suspensions, and either front disc and rear drum brakes or front and rear disc brakes. The Sento has a 4-stroke, air-cooled, single overhead camshaft (SOHC), plus the same equipment found on the Super8, Like, and Like LX. The Agility, too, is a 4-stroke, air-cooled machine. The People is a 2-stroke, air-cooled oil injected model that again has the same equipment as the other scooters. The Agility 125 is a 4-stroke, air-cooled scooter with the same motor makeup as the 50cc machines. The Super8 and People 150cc scooters are similar to the Sento in its equipment. The 200cc scooters include the Downtown, People GT, Like and Like LX, and Yager GT. The Like and Like LX have 4-stroke, 166cc, forced air-cooled engines with electric ignition, CVT automatic transmission, front and rear disc brakes, and telescopic fork front suspension and dual shock rear suspension. Engine differences on the Yager include 175cc, 4-stroke EFI liquid-cooled, single overhead camshaft (SOHC). The primary difference on the downtown is a 205cc engine and a rear suspension that has five position adjustable dual shocks.

The People scooter has a 4-stroke EFI SOHC, 4-valve engine and front brakes that are single disc with three piston calipers. The Downtown 300i has a 300cc engine and five position adjustable dual rear shocks, but is otherwise the same as the Downtown 200. The People GT 300cc scooter has the similar equipment of its 200cc counterpart. The two 500cc scooters are the Xciting 500Ri ABS and Xciting 500Ri. The ABS scooter has a 4-stroke EFI water-cooled double overhead camshaft (DOHC), electric ignition, automatic CVT transmission, telescopic front suspension and adjustable hydraulic shocks on the rear suspension, and front dual disc brakes with dual piston calipers and rear single disc brakes with dual piston calipers. Its Xciting Ri counterpart has the same equipment except that the ABS braking system is optional.
