Phil Collins

In 1985, Phil Collins released what would become his most popular and commercially successful solo album, "No Jacket Required'. The album name was inspired by an unhappy incident that Collins experienced when being turned away at the height of his own personal popularity by a New York restaurant being told that he did not meet their dress code. `No Jacket Required' was the 3^rd solo album by Collins and included singles such as; `Don't Lose My Number", `Sussudio", "One More Night", and "Take Me Home" all of which charted on the top ten of Billboard's Hot 100. The album would win the Grammy in 1985 and would stay on the top of the United States charts for seven consecutive weeks.

Phil Collins was fascinated by drums from an early age, and his captivation with the entertainment world would become his life's calling and bring him worldwide recognition, honors, and immense personal wealth. He would become only one of three musical artists (the other two being Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney) to gain wealth and recognition as both a solo artist and a member of a renowned musical group. In Collins case, that group was Genesis, and he would take center stage with them after the departure of Peter Gabriel. Becoming the lead voice of Genesis would easily lead into his parallel solo career.

The musical career of Phil Collins has made him one of the 20 richest people in the British music industry. In 2011, the Sunday Times Rich List approximated his personal fortune at 115 million pounds. He is the recipient of 2 Golden Globe Awards, 7 Grammys, 3 American Music Awards, and an Academy Award. In 2002, Phil Collins became the beneficiary of the Disney Legend Award for his superlative contributions to the Walt Disney Company.

In 2010, Phil Collins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis - many believe his individual induction is not far off.
