Prince Albert Piercing

A Prince Albert piercing is done on the male genitals. The piercing enters the underside of the penis and exits out of the urethra. This can be done on men that are or are not circumcised. The jewelry used can be a captive ball ring or a curved barbell. Uncircumcised men may be limited to only using a curved barbell. The jewelry is usually a 10 gauge and should be made of stainless steel, titanium, or 14 karat gold.

The healing time for a Prince Albert is 2 to 4 months. Properly cleaning the piercing is imperative to prevent unnecessary trauma to the genitals. Start with a saltwater soak to soften crust buildup. Carefully remove the buildup with a cotton ball. To fully rinse off the piercing, it is best to do so in the shower. A cleaning solution, such as Safecare Plus, is suggested to clean the piercing as well. Place a few drops of the solution on the piercing and lather with water. Gently rotate the jewelry while cleaning the piercing. Rinse off the Safecare Plus after 1 to 2 minutes of lathering. After the shower, fully dry the jewelry and piercing with a paper towel. It is also important to wear a condom during sexual activity for the length of the healing period.

It is important to make sure the parlor you choose is safe and sterile. If the piercing parlor is not sterile it is possible to get infections such as a bladder infection, hepatitis and HIV. Sense this is such a delicate location, the piercing technician should have experience with this type of piercing. At the parlor there will be paperwork to read and fill out stating what piercing you will be getting, the risks, and the aftercare instructions. If you are under 16 years of age, a parent will need to sign approval.

When it is time for the piercing, the instruments, jewelry and technician need to be sterile. Some parlors will use reusable instruments that have been sterilized but most parlors will use fresh, single use instruments. These instruments and the jewelry should need to be in sealed packaging that will be opened in front of you and the technician should always be wearing gloves.
