I am often asked why I chose to place neurosurgeons. In fact a hospital administrator asked me this recently. I replied that I just 'loved them and their unique world.' He replied to me, 'that is because you work with them before they become Gods.' I realized that 20 years ago this bore more truth than it does today.
I would like to take you through some evolutions in neurosurgery that I have experienced. I will break down the coponents of a job search sprinkled with experiences that may provide some understanding of what it takes for a physician to find a job and stay. Retention is the key. It is a major task for a physician to figure out what works the best for him or her. Many learn the hard way and through this Group discussion I will do my best to provide information and real life stories to provide some insight.
