Global Warming

By: Richard Martine   Post Date : November 06, 2012
Global warming is the indisputable high temperature variations now taking place on planet Earth's environment. The controversy among scientists, politicians, and the general public has been an ongoing debate since the middle of the twentieth century. It has been shown that over 90% of scientists now believe that global warming is caused by manmade activities. And, the rise in global warming or climate change took on an elevated rise after the advent of the Industrial Revolution.

However, there are three areas that are highlighted by those who study or debate the topic of global warming;

1. Air Pollution- Many scientists agree that carbon dioxide is building up around the sun (the ozone layer) and capturing the heat of the sun. This results in the heating of planet Earth. The largest source of carbon dioxide pollution, however, is coal power plants, which generate over 2.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year. Cars and other types of motorized vehicles that utilize fossil fuels emit 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide yearly.

2. Deforestation - Deforestation is much different than the regular and normal harvesting of trees. Deforestation has been referred to in numerous studies as a major contributor to the greenhouse effect. This is because trees eliminate carbon dioxide in a naturally occurring way during the course of photosynthesis. It has been stated that deforestation is liable for one-fifth of global greenhouse gas production.

3. Irresponsible Consumerism- Unnecessary packing, the use of Styrofoam, plastic grocery and trash bags are all examples of irresponsible consumerism, in the opinion of many experts and all of these actions add to global warming. Junk mail, fast food consumption, and the overabundance of materials that are unable to be recycled are all examples of more ways in which human activity is said to lead to global warming and irresponsible consumerism.

Global warming is a subject that is at the center of much debate and controversy. However, it is a substantial subject of scrutiny and deserves the attention it receives.
