Make Time for Spouses
Finding time together is one of the ways couples that have been together for a long time stay connected. This can be difficult when you consider extended work hours, kids, house and yard chores and family obligations.

In order to improve your relationship with your spouse, it's important to make spending time with your partner a priority. Many successful couples plan a regular night out together. If you are short on cash, a simple walk in the park or a trip to look at the stars can do wonders for restoring your intimacy.

Praise Your Partner!
Daily routines make it too easy to not be as polite to our spouses as we could be. It's important to remember that our partners need and deserve courtesy. Take time to recognize all that your partner does each day. Thank him or her for things they do and give high praise as much as possible.

It's easy to get bogged down and miss out on telling your partner that you love them every day. Make an effort to not only tell your partner each day but also to show them. Hold their hand, kiss them on the way out the door, put a love note in their lunchbox and compliment your partner in public. All of these acts demonstrate your love for your partner and will help you improve your relationship with your spouse.

Avoid the Myths of a Marriage
There are many misconceptions about marriage, and most of them stem from long-held perceptions of marriage as an eternal honeymoon and a solution for all our problems. In fact, many people who get married bring these popular misconceptions into their marriages:

  • People marry because they are passionately in love, and they believe that maintaining romantic love is the key to marital happiness.
  • They believe that a marriage should always be totally happy and that most of life's satisfactions should come from their partner.
  • They believe that marriage will end their loneliness completely.
  • They believe that a good marriage is one in which the partners agree on everything and never fight.

Such illusions (or delusions) of perfection are bound to fall by the wayside. A more realistic attitude (toward love and marriage and the essence of relationship) will help you improve your relationship with your spouse.
