Uncovering Skin Conditions: Acne, Eczema and Skin Cancer

Acne is a skin condition that surfaces because the glands that secrete oil in the skin have become clogged, inflamed or infected. Since these oil-producing glands are found in the face, back and chest, this is where acne usually occurs. The main symptoms of acne are blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. One of the best solutions for acne is prevention, including cleaning out the pores and keeping dirt out of them. Other treatments include over the counter topical benzoyl peroxide creams and prescription medicines.

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by redness, itching, and flaky skin. In its most severe form, eczema can produce fluid blisters and the skin may break and bleed. There is no cure for eczema, but there are many ways to relieve its discomfort. Eczema treatment options include emollients, steroids, relaxation, sedative antihistamines, tar treatments, and ultraviolet light.

Skin cancer is a skin disease that occurs when cancerous cells are found in the skin. People with light skin who have spent a lot of time on the sun are the most likely candidates for developing skin cancer. Although skin cancer can appear on any part of the body, it is usually found on parts of the skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, such as the face, hands or arms. When discovered early, skin cancer can be treated successfully. Standard treatment options for skin cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and photodynamic therapy.
