• Be Logical: Being logical goes along with being consistent, and it helps your writing stay structured. Here is an example of illogical writing: "Jenny was so beautiful; she had a nice car." There is nothing grammatically wrong with the way this sentence is written, but the last part does not logically follow the first part.
  
  
• Be Clear: Writers who are trying to develop good writing techniques should strive to write in a clear manner so that as many people as possible can understand them. A good writer strives for his writing to be understood by everyone. In order to be clear, writers should also avoid wordiness and redundancy.
  
  
• Follow Conventions: To improve writing, writers should follow the established writing conventions. The conventions you will use for academic writing (e.g., avoiding double negatives and using the correct pronouns) could be quite different than those you will follow when writing e-mails and instant messages. Though most people believe that proper grammar and spelling should still be used, even in electronic correspondence. It’s especially important in the workplace.
  
  
• Practice: Your writing skills won’t improve without a lot of practice. Develop good writing techniques and practice them and you will see your writing improve.
